A hamster-sized guy driving a Z
« on: June 29, 2011, 05:35:23 PM »

My name is Matt and I live over in San Antone. I've been street drifting for about 2 1/2 years, with a year long hiatus that was broken by Mexican Standoff this past weekend. My 350Z got raped by a guy in Austin and I've spent the past year putting it all back together myself (something I never thought I was capable of, so huzzah! *Pats self on back*). Bought an S13 for drifting but after getting two bad SR blocks I parted it out and hate the thing. So I got the Z running 4 days before Mexican Standoff, got there, got some spares on and one of them promptly fell off if any of you remember correctly. Don't ask, I don't know how it happened considering I owned it with the impact and double checked it before I went out, yet nothings stripped. Damn Z's like rollin on 3 wheels I guess. Anyway, Aaron convinced me to hop on here so here I am! Planning on semi-gutting the car, caging it later this year, and snagging some Powered by Max coilovers tomorrow, so hopefully the next event I can go to I'll be ready for it.

Herez teh carz:

I herd diz iz wur teh kewl kidz r. Yadig? Hopefully you guys' coolness can rub off and make me cool too.

Welcome! Might want to try using a torque wrench on your lug nuts. I torque my wheels to 75 ft lb and my spacers down to 80 lb tq (with blue loctite).

@senor Volvo - Yeah I used the torque wrench religiously the rest of the day.. I'm gonna have to get new lugs now though, the lug nuts we put on in place of the 3 I lost fit with the oem G wheels I was using, but when I was putting my Rota's on the socket kept getting stuck since their so wide..

You have no idea how much aircraft it took to get all of that crap off of there :( But thanks man! Was bummed when I heard you sold the VH outta your car, was looking forward to seeing it.

@Shredder - Wuzzaaaahhh! Thanks again for all the help on Saturday man!

Just called and ordered my PBM coilovers, so I'm pretty stoked. Yippee. If anyone needs any SR20 parts hit me up, I got ton for sale.. Help me fund my Z!

Rocker arm stoppers are the worst. Fix the problem before you bend a valve.

Organized everything a bit so it's easier to keep track of what I have and don't have still...

Already sold the tranny :( Still got a Spec Stage 1 (either stage 1 or stage 2, can't remember) clutch that's been mounted but never actually used still though

So I had an interesting experience last night... Was driving home from work, got on it a bit then when I let off I noticed it was a LOT louder and deeper as the RPMs were falling. Stopped at the light that had come up and noticed it sounded a lot beefier, I guess you could say. Second I gave it any gas it sounded like a diesel tractor with an exhaust leak. Then as I started driving I noticed the sound of something taking vengeance on the firewall it seemed, got home and looked under... My drivers side downstream O2 sensor was now on the passenger side, tangled up with the wiring of the passenger side downstream O2 sensor and just hanging there chilling. Looks like when my buddy took off the drivers O2 sensor to compare it to some wiring he forgot to use a wrench to tighten it down all the way or something.

I really need to stop letting crackies touch my car -_-

Well, now in Virginia until December, so I won't be seeing you guys for quite a while. But, before I left I got a little present from the UPS man :)

Things are MAGIC.

Before:

After:

Factory settings, doesn't look like they even go much higher than that hahaa. Need my fenders rolled really urgently, but decided to keep as is (thank god for auto cambering since the guy at the shop took my camber arms and took it off my bill, if I had those on I'd have definitely wrecked the rears by now).

Didn't get good pictures since I was so busy getting ready for VA, but here are some...

Things feel AMAZING. Going to try and fly back to Texas and drive the car up here to VA so I can try and get it out to VIR or something if I ever get a day off, instead of being an extra 5 months rusty on top of my year of rustiness... Buuut thanks to Per Diem all of the money I make on this job isn't getting touched by dinners and gas and such, so I'm definitely going to be coming home to LOTS of boxes of goodies ;D

Plans:
-Bride Zeta III seat
-Full Cage
-Hydro e-brake
-Full suspension arms (gonna wait on an angle kit, still not use to the cars quirks and how it handles, once I get a feel for the car then I'll start getting angle kits and such... Don't want to over build the car at the start)
-ARP Extended heavy duty wheel studs (lmao, I think you guys know why :P)
-Work lightweight extended lug nuts
-Some drift spares (18x9.5 I think)
-A/C lines (I can't take it anymore)
-Carbon hatch
-Maybe an oil cooler
-Probably some gauges and such so that I can make sure I'll be able to spot anything going amiss with the motor... things my daily, gotta keep it runnin >_<

-If I can find one, Nismo V2 wing and Vertex front, although probably not because I'm not too worried about aero and aesthetics atm

And more crap I can't think of right now. Any suggestions lemme know! :)

I think that should give me a pretty good starting place for the car; not too much, not too little. Enough so that when I finally get use to event drifting as opposed to just street drifting hopefully I'll be able to do decent in comps!

Living without A/C in Texas is impossible. Sick looking coilovers though! was the gold plating extra?

Odarn I've been missin events left and right. Out in Virginia right now, canceled all orders and stopped buying shit for the car because I got a co-signer and was planning on buying a house when I got back. Well, co-signer fell through and I gotta build credit for a year sooo... Time to spend some mo monaaay! Yaaaay!

Car is doing pretty well, my buddy Jeremy who's looking after the car while I'm gone sent me this picture the other morning in an e-mail entitled: "Good morning sweetie." I hope his girlfriend doesn't see it because that would be quite awkward and would probably warrant some explaining.

Couple weeks ago bought my new oil pan, A/C lines, and yesterday I ordered some Muteki extended lug nuts, a Cobra Imola S and Cobra side seat rails. Stoked. Set up for my buddy to drop the car off at UpRev next Saturday for an oil cooler setup, maybe some other stuff that needs doing, suspension arms and a base FD-spec cage by the great Russel Walker. Again, super stoked.

I'll tell my friend to get pics. Can't wait to get back and drive the car at an event, miss it so much. Getting ready to order a hydro e-brake, Driftworks harnesses, and a battery cut off switch. Don't wanna over build the car so I'm stopping myself from buying more shit. I would like to know if anyone has any info on the install for an inline hydro e-brake. I found a couple threads on my350z but they are extremely confusing. It looks like you just run the lines to a t-connector at one of the connectors for the lines inside one of the fenders or something like that (can you tell I just skimmed it?).

ALSOO, is anyone selling (or know someone who is selling) a 350z Vertex/Origin style front bumper, Nismo V2 wing or chargespeed rear bumper? :D
