For those who have driven in XDC please help.
« on: March 10, 2011, 08:52:37 PM »

I am trying to plan ahead by getting my car ready for XDC Dallas this year and maybe do more of the events next year. Anyways, these are the things i believe are kind of shady about tech so could some tell me what they are and aren't strict on please? These are the things i am concerned about.

1.No coolant, only water wetter type stuff?

2. (2) tow hooks either straps or hooks. Will stock work?

3. Helmet says snell 2005 and newer or FIA?

4. Driving shoes?

5. Seats and harnesses- Is it the driver seat only that must have dated seat/harness? My pass has a decent seat and harness but outdated.

6. WTF is a logbook? Says required by all drivers?

Only reason i ask is because i was at XDC Dallas last year spectating and in pits through tech and some REALLY shady stuff passed.

It just depends who you get in tech, how well they know you and how bad they're hurting for cars.

Coolant gets checked, tow hooks have to be aftermarket, the LS Auto straps are pretty rad and cheaper than you can get axle straps to make your own for, Snell 2005 helmets are like 50$.

pretty much everyone on here has sketched through tech without shoes, you can bring a buddies shoes to tech, they won't check in grid. Agian, stupid since they're like 60$.

They prolly won't check FIA tags on seats if it looks legit, I'm talking name brand, new condition, not I bought this shit off ebay and it has no tears.

everything on that list is super easy to deal with, we've all rolled through tech sweating bullets, if that's the most your worried about I'd say just do it and roll through.

Well thanks for the input. My car obviously needs some more things but these were kinda shady thats why i asked. Still unclear on how picky they are to have my pass seat and harness fia/sfi?

The big problem with tech is you never know when they are going to drop the hammer.  Typically we always get through tech no problem, but at certain times, your life becomes hell.  I remember adding bars to Russell's cage at Proam in Nevada one year, and another Proam where they made people reweld their cages at a shop the night before.  They made Forrest weld extra bars into his fancy cage AT the event in the parking lot too.  I have seen Nopi straight up not let people run after traveling across the country, same with FD, same with Proam.  I don't think I ever saw D1GP turn anyone away.

Anyways, for XDC Dallas I don't think you will be too sketchy since most likely there are a bunch of things that won't pass on your car.  However, even at XDC Cali last year they made me fix a brake light which had bad wiring, made me get a provisional pass for my seat not being FIA legal, and a few other things.  They checked inside my helmet for the SA tag, and I had to lend my extra fire extinguisher to Gleb because he didn't have one in his car.

They didn't check tech at any of the other rounds.  It should also be noted we know all the tech guys and they have been looking at our cars for years, so a bunch of us don't really get teched.  New people get teched.

Just teched at Irwindale.

Here is what they looked for.

Clean cage 360 welds
sealed battery box
Windows, if not hand restraints
tow hooks must be labeled. the stockers will work if you paint them
Fire suppression
kill switch working
no liquid carrying lines anywhere in the car unless wrapped.

Ill post more when I think of them

Here's one I need clarification on. Is a battery box still required if the battery itself is a sealed type? (optima, odyssey, braille, etc)

Haha and we all know that in racing this year's "recommended" is next year's "required."
